Featured Buildings from the Past

As Cranbrook plans the renewal and development of the downtown core, we think it worthwhile to present some of the striking buildings from our past. There are still many historical and architectural treasures in Cranbrook, hidden behind vinyl siding and neglect.

0036.0017: A prepared view of the Federal Post Office building built in Cranbrook in 1912.

0457.0451: The Provincial Government Building in Cranbrook in the 1930s. It was situated at the east end of Baker Street in the middle of the street with the road curving around it. Cranbrook’s city offices were located here as well until the City Hall was completed in 1909. Notice the cenotaph located in front of the western entrance.

0039.0131: The Cranbrook Railway YMCA building.

0156.0002: The Cranbrook CPR station – c. 1900.

0039.0093: Cranbrook's Imperial Bank of Canada building – c. 1917. The Leask building is behind it.

0039.0095: Cranbrook’s first Royal Canadian Legion building, fronting onto Baker Street on the south side just before the Provincial Government Building – c. 1920.

0151.0045: A good frontal view of the present Fire Hall building which was constructed in 1929 – photo taken 1976.
